PicaLoader 1.47 - Abort on Launch

Post by iostream »

!!! POST UPDATE !!!
The following issue has been fixed! Please download the updated version of PicaLoader (1.47.1011) from HERE.

===ORIGINAL POST===
I have just rebuilt my system with a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. After updating all components of the OS via Windows Update and MSDN, I downloaded and installed the most recent version of PicaLoader from this website (Downloaded 09/28/2004). When I attempt to launch the application, the splash screen for PicaLoader appears for less than one second and then the entire application exits without any error message.

I have been a registered PicaLoader user for some time and never experienced an issue of this magnitude running under Windows XP Pro or Windows XP Pro SP1a. I have researched the Windows XP SP2 Compatibility List at Microsoft to insure that PicaLoader was not one of the applications known to have issue with the latest service pack. PicaLoader was not listed. I have also searched this forum and found some similar posts to my own. However, the suggested solution was to download and install the current release which is exactly what I have already accomplished.

Would anyone have a suggestion or work-around for this issue. I have performed the usual uninstall followed by a registry cleanup, reboot into a "clean environment" (i.e. no startup applications or services running), and reinstall of the latest version from this website.

Hi,

I just test under "Clean" Windows XP SP2 with all updating via Windows Update site, it works well.
Could you please tell me what components you update via MSDN and the update URL?

Kind Regards,

I have the same problem with picaloader.
Loading screen of the main programme for just a second the crash without prompting. The uninstaller (when trying to repair) said that "delete failed, error code 5".
System up and running is WinXP Pro SP1... no I wont install SP2!
I made a fresh install of picaloader trial never used it bevor!

[ Installation Report - HPKAYAK ]

Please note that all actions listed below relate to an installation date of 09/25/2004

01. Slipstreamed SP2, Post SP2 hot fixes, and updated unattended installation script into a disk image of Windows XP Pro SP1 (Microsoft ActionPack Release - English).
02. Burned prepared, bootable image to CD-R.
03. Used DEBUG to blast all fixed disk MBR's and reset drives to OEM condition.
04. Installed Windows XP SP2 Pro from prepared CD image using the unattended script to perform the following actions:
  • a. Partition and FULL format all fixed drives with NTFS
    b. Install XP with the desired components and network client configuration to the "C" partition.
    c. Install the latest OEM drivers for all installed hardware (ASPI Layer, SCSI, NIC, Video, Modem, etc.)
    d. Update the following components with the latest full (not BETA) releases from the MSDN resource center:
  • 1. dotNET redistributable with latest service pack
    2. DirectX
    3. JET
    4. MDAC
    5. MS JVM (Still required for some applications I use)
    6. SUN JRE (From SUN - for normal java runtime engine requirements)
    7. MS Windows Scripting Engine (For development purposes)
    8. MS XML Parser (For development purposes)
05. Immediately after installation was completed, I ran Windows Update to insure I had not missed any critical or recommended updates. Windows Media Player 10 had been released at that point and I did update the component.

If I run a project in 1.47 then 1.46 won't run it anymore

Post by dbhome »

actually I have the same problem pl crashes unless I disable thw welcome screen in reg edit but then all profiles are gone aswell (or never got install or deleted) where are the profiles stored btw

I don't know if its sp2 related because ver 1.46 runs great on my sp2 machine 1.47 does not

:!: one problem once I run a project in 1.47 then 1.46 will not run it anymore because 1.47 changes the database somehow. :!:

Update read the newest version fixes this problem from the quotable section here does this version fix the profile problem also :?:

I need to know cause I don't want to lose another 12 gig project again

UPDATE thanks Picaloader I bit the bulet and it works fine now with the newest version

Hi

Post by 44Harry »

My PicaLoader was shutting down on startup because my ad blocking software was reading the Loader.exe section of PicaLoader.exe in the process list and it would shut it down because it thought it was spyware. I changed the file name to PicaLdr.exe and now it runs without fail.

Just thought I would share.

Thanks for the great program.
