trial version PL v1.41, WinXP Pro, Pentium 2 GHz, 1 Mbyte RAM, using DSL
Hi
Can I ask a few questions from PL Admin + PL users before I make up my mind about buying PL. Also posted some suggestions for discussion in the other forum.
1. I seem to be only getting 2 simultaneous downloads. There are numerous connections, multiple links in the queue, but only 2 downloads. A different downloader (connected to the same site) allows multiple connections which also creates multiple downloads. Is this a restriction
of the trial version? If so can you write this info somewhere on your site or in the manual. Thanks. (apologies if it's written there + I haven't seen it !).
2. This trial version, downloading in blocks of 500 files, doesn't seem to detect duplicate files in different 500 file blocks when downloading from the same site using one project + one task. Is this intentional?
3. Can you or some more experienced users please explain to a beginner what these sample URL filters mean in English -
eg. from sample projects in the forum for Wonderful girls
menuie\.asp;intro\.htm;/search_display\.asp;category_id=6;/search_disp\.asp/\~admin\d+/photos/\w+\.jpg
from asia beauty sample project
forum;webform;/bt/;/search
from chinese bbs sample project
List\.asp\?BoardID=2;dispbbs\.asp\?boardID=2
from grooed Absolute Idols sample project

I tried some Page URL Exclude Filters after spotting some urls in the queue that I wanted to exclude. eg. windowsmedia.com. So I paused the task, edited the filters + started the task. Still tried to download from windowsmedia.com, even after emptying the queue. I also stopped the task + aborted the task, and edited the filters, but didn't seem to stop the unwanted pages appearing the queue. I used a variety of entries in the
Page URL Exclude Filters including windows; windowsmedia; and then windowsmedia.com. From what I read in the PL Help file with the example of beatles, then the search on windows should have filtered out the pages from the queue. I can't figure it out from the Help entry for Use Regular Expression in URL filter.
Thanks in advance for your answers on my questions. I've just started using PL + I like what it can do. I like the download stats, Queue Browser, search functions, URL expressions, etc. I'll have to start to understand how to use Perl. I appreciate the other forum users posting their .plp project files to share - Thanks. Also you seem to respond quickly to users posting about bugs or suggested additional features, so it looks like a well supported product.
Thanks again
Chris
